They say everyone knows someone from Toledo, Ohio and if you didn’t before, now you do. We have a few nicknames for our city but the most well-known is “The Glass City”, and Libbey Glass is the reason. I know a lot about Libbey Glass so I’ll try not to get too long-winded.
Libbey Glass was originally started in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of the New England Glass Company in 1818. However, Edward Drummond Libbey moved the company to Toledo, Ohio in 1888 and we continue to make glassware here today.
Libbey Glass has a factory outlet store downtown next to our Farmer’s Market that we visit every spring. I always buy something. Additionally, the Edward Drummond Libbey House in the Historic Old West End is a National Historic Landmark that was built in 1885.
Libbey Glass manufactures glassware and drinkware for every purpose in an endless array of patterns and styles. Drinking glasses, water glasses, beer glasses, whiskey glasses, wine glasses, pitchers, decanters…well, I could go on forever.
(Libbey Glass headquarters and the Toledo manufacturing plant are important to American workers in the Toledo, Ohio area and our overall economy. However, please note that Libbey Glass does have manufacturing plants in Mexico, Portugal, and China as well.)
The next generation of the Mosser family still owns and operates Mosser Glass which began in an abandoned chicken coup in 1959. Mosser Glass glassware is collectible and includes new designs with timeless classics.

Today, the handmade basket-making tradition continues in Dresden where the company has expanded to include drinkware, dinnerware, bakeware, crockery, and other pottery made in Zanesville, Ohio along with American made kitchenwares, gourmet condiments, dips, jams, salsa, bread mixes, and other pantry goods.
